Lithogeochemical exploration for delineating primary gold occurrences in West Kao area, North Halmahera District, North Maluku Province

Halmahera Island retains several gold deposits. One of the deposits is called as low sulphidation epithermal (LSE) quartz veins which currently being mined and situated in Gosowong goldfield. The mostly originated N-S NNE-SSW direction. This study aimed to determine prospect area northern portion goldfield covering West Kao sub district based on surface mapping rock/float- BLEG stream sediment survey. A total 16 rock/vein float 120 samples were analyzed by FA/AAS CNO2 cyanide leach methods, respectively. occupied tuffaceous sandstone, andesite, porphyritic andesite lava units. In eastern part, sandstone suffered from argillic propylitic alteration, may be controlled NW-SE-trending structures. grade rock/float up 0.044 ppm. data indicates a calculated threshold 10 ppb for Au 72 Ag. highest Ag contents (anomalies) are identified part area. spatially (and maybe genetically) related argillic-altered structures occurrences vein floats.
